Adani Green Initiates Wind Power Generation At World’s Largest Renewable Energy Plant

Transforming the barren land of Khavda into a hub of clean and affordable energy, the Khavda Renewable Energy Plant generates enough power to supply 16.1 million homes annually.

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s leading renewable energy company, has achieved a significant milestone by commissioning 250 MW of wind capacity at the Khavda Renewable Energy Plant in Gujarat, the largest renewable energy plant in the world with a total planned capacity of 30,000 MW. This addition brings the Khavda plant’s operational capacity to 2,250 MW and expands AGEL’s total operational portfolio to 11,184 MW, making it the largest in India.

Wind energy plays a crucial role in maintaining India’s energy balance by providing round-the-clock renewable energy. Wind power generation at night complements solar energy produced during the day, contributing to grid stability and enhancing renewable baseload power through storage solutions.

Khavda is an ideal location for wind energy due to its exceptional wind resources, with average wind speeds around 8 meters per second. The plant features the world’s largest and most powerful onshore Wind Turbine Generator (WTG), each with a capacity of 5.2 MW. These high-capacity WTGs optimize land use and reduce the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE). The turbines, with a rotor diameter of 160 meters and a tip height of 200 meters (comparable to the Statue of Unity), are built using advanced German technology and manufactured by Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL) near Mundra Port, reinforcing AGEL’s commitment to the ‘Made in India’ initiative.
