The first Navaratri according to Hindu Calendar is called Chaitra Navratri
On the sixth day of Chaitra Navratri, Goddess Maa Katyayani is worshipped. The prevailing belief is that this Goddess is the ruler of the planet Brihaspati. According to religious texts, Goddess Parvati was born in the home of sage Katya, and hence, this form of Goddess Parvati is known as Maa Katyayani.
Maa Katyayani
Maa Katyayani is a form of shakti depicted with four arms and a sword and is often seen riding a lion. She is the daughter of sage katyayan and devotees offer honey as prasad to her. Marigolds or roses are offered as flowers to this particular form of goddess Durga. The color white which is associated with the goddess and represents qualities such as peace, purity, simplicity, and cleanliness. It is also a symbol of strong bonds, love, and admiration. It is believed that wearing white on the 6 days of Navratri can bring the blessings of the goddess and evoke a sense of inner peace and security.
Puja Vidhi
During the puja, the devotees offered flowers, fruits, and other presents to the goddess while mantras are chanted and incense and lamps (Deepak) are lit.
On this day, devotees fast as a sign of their devotion towards the Goddess. They refrain from eating grains and stick to eating only fruits, milk, and other light food items all day.
On Day 6, devotees donate food, clothes, and other necessities to the needy and the poor.
