Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah said on Sunday that it has launched large numbers of artillery shells and guided missiles at Israeli positions along a disputed border. In response, the Israeli army stated that it had also launched artillery into southern Lebanon.
“The Islamic resistance (Hezbollah)…attacked three positions of the Zionist enemy in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa farms…with large numbers of artillery shells and guided missiles”, the Lebanese Shia movement said in a statement, adding that it was in solidarity with a large-scale air, sea, and land attack launched Saturday by the Palestinian group Hamas on Israel.
On Sunday, the Israeli army said it, too, launched artillery on southern Lebanon in reaction to a projectile from the area.
“Israeli artillery is in the process of striking the area of Lebanon from which a shot was fired”, claimed a statement made shortly before 7:30 a.m. (0430 GMT), without providing any other information about the attack.
