G20 Summit 2023 in Delhi commenced with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inaugural address, where he delivered a message of global cooperation and unity. During his speech, PM Modi made a historic revelation about India’s ancient commitment to the well-being of humanity.

He began by expressing condolences for the recent devastating earthquake in Morocco, showing solidarity with those affected. PM Modi emphasized that the global community stands with Morocco during these challenging times and is ready to provide assistance.

PM Modi then shared an extraordinary discovery—a pillar located a few kilometers away, believed to be over 2,500 years old, carries an inscription in Prakrit language that reads: “Hevam lokasya hitam mukhamiti, atha iyam natessu hevam.” This ancient message translates to the eternal pursuit of the welfare and happiness of humanity. It signifies that India had conveyed this message of human welfare and happiness millennia ago, and now is the time for the G20 nations to heed it.

Membership to the African Union in G20

Furthermore, PM Modi proposed granting permanent membership to the African Union in the G20, reflecting the idea of inclusive cooperation. He invited the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Zalaïa Assoumani, and the Chairperson of the African Union (AU), Zaki Anwari, to accept G20’s permanent membership, which was welcomed.

Rebuilding trust among nations

Addressing the current global challenges, PM Modi stressed that the world has witnessed a significant absence of trust in the post-COVID-19 era. He highlighted that while the pandemic created a global crisis, the world can overcome it by rebuilding trust among nations. PM Modi urged for unity and cooperation in addressing issues such as economic turmoil, division between the North and South, food, energy, and water security, cybersecurity, and health.

PM Modi’s speech at the G20 Summit emphasized India’s commitment to the welfare of humanity, its historic message of welfare, and the need for global cooperation and trust to overcome the challenges facing the world today.
