West Indies secured an eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the opening Test on Saturday, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Roston Chase delivered a five-wicket performance, while Brandon King anchored the successful chase with an unbeaten 81.

The visitors reached their target of 170 at 170/2, completing the match with a day to spare.

Bangladesh resumed their second innings at 79/6 on the fourth morning but struggled to extend their lead. Jomel Warrican dismissed Jaker Ali early, with Chase taking the catch at slip.

Nayeem Hasan offered resistance despite surviving two dropped catches. He scored 52, registering his maiden Test half-century, before Chase dismissed him following a rain interruption.

Chase finished with figures of 5-36, while Warrican claimed 4-63. Bangladesh were bowled out for 142, leaving West Indies with a target of 170. Warrican also collected nine wickets across the match and received the Player of the Match award.

King and John Campbell gave West Indies an excellent start with a 112-run opening partnership. Campbell narrowly missed his half-century, departing for 49 after Shoriful Islam bowled him through an edge onto his stumps.

King maintained the momentum and reached his fifty off 35 balls, including three consecutive boundaries. Tagenarine Chanderpaul fell cheaply, but Kavem Hodge joined King and helped accelerate the chase.

King remained unbeaten on 81 as the West Indies comfortably reached the target. Hodge provided support at the other end.

Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam took one wicket each for Bangladesh, but their efforts could not prevent defeat.
