Sanskar Bharati Hosts Theatre Seminar On Social Awareness, Stages ‘Athanni’

Sanskar Bharati organised a theatre seminar at its central office, Kala Sankul, in New Delhi on Sunday. The event explored the Indian perspective on street theatre and its role in social awareness.

Dr Vinod Narayan Indurkar, Chairman of the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), attended as the chief guest and speaker. He discussed the social relevance of art and its connection with Indian cultural values.

He highlighted how art goes beyond entertainment. It can build public awareness, encourage dialogue and connect communities with important social issues.

The seminar featured Athanni, a street play presented by Pratidhwani Theatre Society. The performance addressed serious concerns, including human trafficking, children being lured into begging and substance abuse among children.

The play used the accessible format of street theatre to bring these issues closer to the public. It highlighted the role of traditional performance forms in raising awareness and encouraging social responsibility.

The presentation underlined how theatre can give voice to concerns, evoke empathy and inspire public engagement.

Kala Sankul continues to promote Indian art, cultural discussions and creative expression. The seminar offered artists, theatre practitioners and cultural enthusiasts an opportunity to examine theatre’s role through an Indian cultural lens.

Pankaj, co-general secretary of the South Bihar province, attended the event along with scholars and students. Raj Upadhyay conducted the programme.

Vishwadeep, Sneha Mukherjee and Ritambhara contributed to the successful organisation of the event.

The seminar emphasised that art becomes meaningful when it connects with society and influences public thought. Theatre can serve as a powerful bridge between culture and social consciousness.
