The Parliament of India will host the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan in the Parliament House complex on Monday, bringing together parliamentary leaders from BRICS member and partner countries to discuss cooperation and people-centric development.

The two-day forum, scheduled for October 26 and 27, will focus on strengthening parliamentary institutions and advancing development that addresses people’s needs and aspirations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also attend the event and meet visiting delegations.

Ahead of the forum, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held a bilateral meeting with a Russian parliamentary delegation led by Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

The two delegations discussed ways to strengthen cooperation at international forums and make collective efforts to combat terrorism.

Meanwhile, Birla welcomed Volodin and his delegation on behalf of the Indian Parliament and the country’s 1.4 billion people, highlighting the longstanding friendship between India and Russia, built on mutual trust, respect and shared aspirations.

Furthermore, Birla appreciated Russia’s continued support for India’s fight against terrorism. He stressed that the international community must demonstrate unity and resolve against the threat and work collectively to promote global peace.

Birla said India and Russia would mark 80 years of diplomatic relations in 2027, with their strategic partnership strengthening under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin.

He described the forum as a new chapter in India’s parliamentary diplomacy, bringing together BRICS leaders and dignitaries to discuss people-centric development, institutional partnerships and cooperation on global challenges.
