IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) have announced plans to begin international flight operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in February 2027, with a phased expansion planned over the following months.
The move aims to strengthen Mumbai’s dual-airport system and improve connectivity for passengers.
As part of the transition, IndiGo plans to shift 12 daily international departures from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to NMIA.
These services currently connect Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta.
The airline will also introduce a daily Kathmandu service, taking its international network from NMIA to 12 destinations between February and July 2027.
IndiGo will transfer the necessary domestic connections to support these international flights and enable smoother onward journeys.
The shift will create additional capacity at CSMIA for IndiGo to introduce new international services across Asia, Africa and Europe during 2027. The airline plans to utilise its expanding fleet, including A320, A321 and A321XLR aircraft.
The transition will also contribute to capacity adjustments required for the redevelopment of CSMIA’s Terminal 1 by 2030. IndiGo and AAHL intend to accommodate any further operational changes at Terminal 1 through Terminal 2.
The companies said the phased shift aims to distribute airport capacity fairly, minimise operational disruption and provide greater certainty for airlines and passengers.
The company will announce the final dates for transferring services and launching new flights once it completes coordination and secures the necessary operating approvals.
The expansion is expected to broaden international connectivity through both Mumbai airports and provide passengers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region with more travel options.
