Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced that Operation Trident had exposed hawala transactions worth ₹100 crore and led to the freezing of 1,424 bank accounts across Assam, Mizoram and Manipur. The coordinated anti-narcotics operation dismantled an international drug-trafficking network and resulted in 18 arrests.
In a post on X, Shah said central agencies and state police forces conducted simultaneous raids at 38 locations across the three northeastern states on October 23. He described the operation as another major blow against drug trafficking under the PM Narendra Modi government.
Modi Govt deals another lethal blow against drugs with Operation Trident.
Our agencies launched a barrage of simultaneous crackdowns across 38 locations in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur on 23 October, smashing an international narco-cartel. The operation revealed ₹100 crore worth of hawala transactions, froze 1,424 bank accounts, attached properties worth ₹17.82 crore, seized 500 detonators and ₹12 lakh in cash, and led to the arrest of 18 people.
The network trafficked narcotics across the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh through the Death Triangle Corridor. The offensive attests to India’s Himalayan resolve to realise the mission of eradicating every drug network by 31 December 2029. India will hammer until the last nail is driven into the coffin of drug cartels.
Heartiest congratulations to the anti-narcotics team comprising central agencies, and police forces of the three states.

The operation also led to the attachment of properties worth ₹17.82 crore. Authorities seized 500 detonators and ₹12 lakh in cash during the crackdown, according to the Home Minister.
Shah said the alleged trafficking network smuggled narcotics across the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh through the so-called Death Triangle Corridor. He congratulated the anti-narcotics teams and police forces from the three states for their coordinated efforts.
Shah reiterated the government’s goal of achieving a drug-free India by December 31, 2029. Addressing Police Commemoration Day on October 21, he urged police forces nationwide to follow the government’s roadmap, warning that narcotics threaten young people, burden the economy and fund anti-national activities.
Operation Trident marks a significant crackdown on an alleged international drug-trafficking network in the Northeast. The arrests, financial investigations and seizures could support further efforts to disrupt cross-border smuggling and dismantle organised narcotics networks.
