Bhagat Singh Koshyari Recalls Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Valour At Ghaziabad’s Jaanta Raja

Former Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari captivated audiences on the second day of Jaanta Raja, a large-scale historical theatrical production organised by Divya Prem Seva Mission in Ghaziabad.

He recounted the famous Marathi expression, ‘Gad Aaya, Sinh Gela’, highlighting the sacrifice of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s commander Tanaji Malusare during the battle for Kondhana Fort.

The phrase means, “The fort has been captured, but the lion is gone.” Although the Maratha forces secured victory, Tanaji lost his life in the battle. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj later renamed the fort Sinhagad in his honour.

Koshyari said Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s ideals continued to inspire him with youthful energy. He urged young Indians to reclaim the country’s lost glory through wisdom, strategy and determination.

Swami Chidanand Saraswati, head of Parmarth Niketan in Rishikesh, praised the mission and its president, Dr Ashish Gautam, for organising the production. He said nation-building required both the strength of the sword and the power of ideas.

He also stressed that young people needed to understand India through its own cultural perspective. According to him, Jaanta Raja could help future generations understand the country’s identity and aspirations.

Historical Drama Attracts Students

The production at Suncity, Ghaziabad, traces Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life, from his birth and Jijabai’s dedication to the teachings of Samarth Guru Ramdas, major battles and coronation.

A prominent sequence depicts Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj defeating Afzal Khan, the ruler of Bijapur.

Visitors from Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and other parts of Delhi-NCR are attending the show. Students form a significant part of the audience, with several educational institutions sending groups to watch the performance.

The mission aims to spread Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s ideals and deliver a positive message to young people. It has previously staged Jaanta Raja in Lucknow and Agra.

Other attendees included BJP national organiser Nagendra Singh, journalist Shardhanand Trivedi, Rajya Sabha MP Amarpal Maurya and mission coordinator Dr Sanjay Chaturvedi.

Organising committee president Dr Rajesh Gupta, coordinator Vinay Chaudhary and national vice-president Umesh Nigam were also present. Mission co-coordinator Raghavendra Singh hosted the programme.
