A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut sentenced Muskan Rastogi and her lover, Sahil Shukla, to death on Wednesday for murdering her husband, Saurabh Rajput, and sealing his dismembered remains inside a blue plastic drum.
The district court convicted both accused on September 30 for murder and concealing Rajput’s body.
According to the police investigation, Muskan sedated Rajput by mixing a substance into his food at their home on March 3, 2025.
Shukla arrived shortly afterwards, and the pair stabbed Rajput to death before dismembering his body in the bathroom.
They placed the remains inside a large blue drum and sealed them with a mixture of sand, water and cement to suppress the smell of decomposition.
The case reached the court on March 17, 2025, before moving to the district judge’s court in July. Arguments continued for around 13 months. The trial involved 126 hearings and testimonies.
Prosecutor Vijay Bahadur said the prosecution presented 22 testimonies to establish the case through circumstantial evidence. He said the court found the evidence complete and confirmed that both accused had murdered Rajput and concealed his body. The prosecution subsequently sought the death penalty.
Shopkeepers testified that they sold the accused a blue drum, cement bags, sand, cleavers and razors before the murder. Call detail records and mobile tower locations placed Shukla at the residence during the crime. Investigators also traced the pair’s movements to hotel stays in Shimla and Manali, Himachal Pradesh.
Earlier, Rajput’s elder brother, Rahul, told that the family wanted justice. “We just want one thing: whatever they did to my brother, the same should happen to them.”
