The weather in Delhi-NCR is likely to change from Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light rain and strong winds in parts of the national capital. The change is expected to bring a further drop in temperatures over the coming days.
The maximum temperature is likely to range between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may settle between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius.
Although mornings and evenings have become relatively cooler following the monsoon’s withdrawal, daytime temperatures may continue to remain high.
Delhi recorded a below-normal maximum temperature on Tuesday. Bright sunshine prevailed across most parts of the capital, with the intensity increasing as the day progressed.
However, moisture left by rainfall a day earlier limited the rise in temperatures.
The Safdarjung observatory, Delhi’s standard weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 32.5 degrees Celsius, 0.7 degrees below normal.
The minimum temperature stood at 21.2 degrees Celsius, while relative humidity ranged between 56 and 96 per cent.
Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast unsettled weather across several parts of the country. Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir may experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Wednesday.
Western Rajasthan could witness gusty winds, thunderstorms and hailstorms, while higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir may receive snowfall.
Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi may experience strong winds at speeds of 40–50 kmph, with gusts reaching 60 kmph. The IMD has also warned of possible lightning in these areas.
The IMD expects scattered rain in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh from October 15 to 19.
Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana may also receive rain, with the approaching northeast monsoon likely to bring heavy showers to parts of southern India from October 14 to 19.
