Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Chennai on Sunday to inaugurate a new Metro rail stretch, launch development projects and attend events at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and a school celebrating its golden jubilee.
PM Modi will arrive in Chennai at 11 AM, where Chief Minister Vijay and other ministers will welcome him at Porur Metro station.
The Prime Minister and Vijay will travel on the newly built Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro corridor, which cost ₹750 crore.
PM Modi is also expected to interact with students and workers during the journey. This will be his first Chennai visit since Vijay took office.
The Prime Minister will reach the IIT Madras campus at 12.15 PM, where he will offer prayers at the Jalakanteswarar Temple before visiting the institute’s brain research centre.
At a function on campus, PM Modi will inaugurate completed development projects, dedicate projects to the nation and lay foundation stones for new initiatives across Tamil Nadu. He will also address the gathering.
The programme includes the inauguration of a music training centre associated with composer Ilaiyaraaja, established on the IIT Madras campus.
PM Modi will attend Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya’s golden jubilee celebrations at 3 pm before returning to New Delhi.
Authorities have tightened security across Chennai, while the Tamil Nadu BJP has arranged receptions and roadshows along his route.
