Delhi-NCR, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Chandigarh and parts of Haryana and Punjab may witness isolated rain and thunderstorms on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather agency has not issued any warning for heavy rain in Delhi, indicating that the capital may receive only brief spells of rain accompanied by lightning rather than prolonged showers.
The latest IMD forecast also predicts heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu and Kerala, while Delhi, Patna and Lucknow may receive scattered showers. Odisha will remain under watch as the southwest monsoon continues to withdraw from central parts of the country.
Several regions across north, east and south India are likely to experience rain, although the intensity will vary. Tamil Nadu and Kerala may receive the heaviest spells, while Delhi and other northern cities are likely to see lighter and more scattered rainfall.
The weather activity comes as the southwest monsoon retreats from parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. The withdrawal signals a gradual transition towards the post-monsoon phase, although some regions continue to experience heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the moderate category on Thursday, with several monitoring stations recording elevated AQI levels. IIT Delhi recorded an AQI of 240, while RK Puram, Dwarka Sector 8 and Mundka recorded 227, 269 and 255, respectively. Punjabi Bagh recorded 183, while Rohini and Bawana recorded 195 each.
Delhi recorded its most polluted first week of October in three years, with an average AQI of 171. The seven-day average was 176 in 2023, 155 in 2024 and 117 in 2025.
Delhi’s AQI ranged from 136 to 187 during the first seven days this year.
