Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday wished activist Sonam Wangchuk a full and speedy recovery after he concluded his 26-day hunger strike.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister encouraged Sonam Wangchuk to follow his doctors’ recommendations, regain his strength and return to good health at the earliest.
@Wangchuk66 @GitanjaliAngmo

Sonam Wangchuk concluded his nearly four-week-long hunger strike at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.
Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, senior representatives of the Apex Body of Leh Ladakh, medical professionals and members of his family were present when he ended the protest.
The activist’s campaign drew nationwide attention, prompting appeals from leaders across political parties and members of civil society to end the fast.
Sonam Wangchuk said that 65 Members of Parliament had either met him personally or signed letters requesting him to call off the protest because of growing concerns over his health and the possibility of public unrest.
After ending the fast, Sonam Wangchuk said lengthy discussions on several conditions had led to his decision. He assured supporters that he would soon release a video explaining the outcome of the negotiations and appealed to people to maintain peace and avoid violence.
Separately, Prime Minister Modi announced that the Central government has drafted a comprehensive Bill proposing stricter legal provisions and harsher punishments for paper leak offences.
The Union Cabinet is expected to consider the proposal before it is introduced during the ongoing session of Parliament.
Sonam Wangchuk’s decision to end his protest concludes one of the longest hunger strikes by a prominent public activist in recent years.
