Norway Confers Grand Cross Of Royal Norwegian Order Of Merit On PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday received Norway’s highest civilian distinction, the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, from Harald V in Oslo.

The honour represents his 32nd international recognition and the second award during his ongoing five-nation visit.

After receiving the honour in Oslo, PM Modi posted, “Honoured to receive the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. This honour is dedicated to the people of India and is a tribute to the enduring friendship between India and Norway. It reflects our shared commitment to global progress.”

Experts noted that this honour reflects India’s increasing influence worldwide and underscores PM Modi’s active role in international diplomacy. His global engagements and speeches in foreign legislatures also continue to position India as a prominent voice of the Global South.

A day earlier, Sweden had presented him with its highest civilian award, the Royal Order of the Polar Star, Commander Grand Cross, marking his 31st global accolade.

India and Norway agreed to elevate their relationship into a Green Strategic Partnership, with a focus on sustainable development and environmental collaboration.
