Shamika Ravi
Economics professor and researcher Shamika Ravi has been appointed as a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM).
“The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has cleared the appointment of Ravi as a part-time member of the EAC-PM,” a senior government official told.
Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) is an independent body constituted to give advice on economic and related issues to the Government of India, specifically to the Prime Minister. EAC-PM, chaired by economist Bibek Debroy, currently has one member and six part-time members. Member Sanjeev Sanyal welcomed Ravi in a social media post. Part-time members of the advisory body include economist Rakesh Mohan and Sajjid Z. Chinoy, Managing Director and Chief India Economist at J.P. Morgan.
Shamika Ravi, a senior fellow at Brookings India, would be appointed as a part-time member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), a senior government official said.
Headed by NITI Aayog member Bibek Debroy, the EAC-PM includes NITI Aayog’s Principal Advisor Ratan Watal as its member and economists Surjit Bhalla, Rathin Roy, and Ashima Goyal as part-time members.
Shamika Ravi leads the development economics research vertical at Brookings India. Ravi is also a visiting professor of economics at the Indian School of Business (ISB) where she teaches courses in Game Theory and Microfinance.
Ravi had previously served as a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and publishes extensively in peer-reviewed academic journals.
