Over 5,000 Protest In Sarojininagar Against Ajay Rai’s Remarks On MLA Rajeshwar Singh

A wave of public anger swept through Sarojininagar in Lucknow on Tuesday as more than 5,000 people staged a large-scale protest against Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai over his controversial remarks targeting local BJP MLA Dr Rajeshwar Singh.

Protesters described the comments as derogatory and an insult to the dignity of the constituency and its elected representative.

BJP workers, supporters and local residents gathered in large numbers, carrying banners and placards, and burnt an effigy of Ajay Rai to register their protest.

The demonstrators chanted slogans against the Congress leader, demanded an immediate public apology, and warned that they would escalate the agitation if authorities ignored their demands.

Supporters of Dr Rajeshwar Singh also submitted a memorandum to the police, seeking the registration of an FIR against Ajay Rai.

They alleged that the remarks were baseless and aimed at tarnishing the image of a leader known for integrity and public service.

Protesters asserted that attempts to malign Dr Singh would not be tolerated.

Undeterred by cold weather and rain, the crowd marched from Shaheed Path Mod to the Holiday Inn area, raising slogans against the Congress leadership.

Speakers at the protest accused Ajay Rai of indulging in ‘cheap politics’ to remain in the spotlight, citing his history of political opportunism.

Participants highlighted Dr Rajeshwar Singh’s tenure in the police and enforcement agencies, during which he took strong action against crime and corruption.

They said his clean image and administrative record had earned him wide public respect.

Protesters reiterated that Dr Rajeshwar Singh symbolises honest leadership not only for Sarojininagar but for the wider region, warning that any further remarks against him would amount to an attack on public sentiment and invite stronger resistance.
