Droupadi Murmu Commences Historic Visit to Manipur. Authorities have strengthened security across Imphal and Senapati ahead of her arrival. Government agencies are coordinating closely to ensure smooth operations during the engagements.
The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), representing Kuki-Zo tribals, has extended a warm reception to the President.
On reaching Imphal, she will receive a guard of honour and visit the historic Imphal Polo Ground (Mapal Kangjeibung) for a polo exhibition match. The venue recently hosted the 15th Manipur International Polo Tournament, one of the world’s oldest polo grounds.
Officials will host a civic reception at the City Convention Centre in her honour. The President will also inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several projects, underlining the Centre’s commitment to regional development.
President Droupadi Murmu will visit the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex to pay tribute to Manipuri women warriors.
Nupi Lal commemorates two women-led protests in 1904 and 1939 against British colonial policies. She will later travel to the Senapati district to address a public gathering and oversee the launch of infrastructure and welfare projects.
Preparations for Presidential Visit
Local authorities have repaired and decorated the 7-km road from Bir Tikendrajit Airport to the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex. Colourful flags and banners have been installed along the route to welcome the President.
This visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s September tour, during which he inaugurated 17 projects worth ₹1,200 crore and laid foundation stones for 19 additional projects, including all-women Ima Markets and Special Economic Zone buildings.
Tribal leaders highlighted the symbolic importance of the President’s visit for communities affected by conflict. KZC Secretary Ginza Vualzong urged engagement with Kuki-Zo areas to address the needs of displaced populations.
Observers anticipate that the visit will focus attention on neglected tribal regions, encourage local development, and promote peace and stability. The Kuki-Zo Council hopes her presence will foster justice, rehabilitation, and socio-economic opportunities for tribal populations throughout Manipur.
