India’s sugar industry has started the 2025-26 marketing year on a strong note, with production climbing to 4.11 million tonnes in October and November, according to the Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA).
This represents a remarkable 43% increase compared with the 2.88 million tonnes produced during the same period of the previous marketing year.
The sugar marketing year in India runs from October to September, and the early surge indicates a promising start for domestic production.
Maharashtra, the country’s leading sugar-producing state, has largely driven the growth in production.

Other sugar-producing states have also shown healthy performance, adding to the overall boost in production figures.
