Motherson, Adani Ports Tie Up To Boost Auto Export Capacity At Dighi Port

Motherson’s logistics JV, SAMRX, has partnered with Adani Ports’ Dighi Port to develop a dedicated automotive export facility in Maharashtra.

Motherson’s logistics joint venture, Samvardhana Motherson Hamakyorex Engineered Logistics Ltd (SAMRX), has signed an agreement with Dighi Port Limited, a part of Adani Ports, to set up a dedicated automotive export facility at Dighi Port in Maharashtra.

The expansion at Dighi Port, one of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone’s key locations, is expected to strengthen India’s automotive export capabilities in line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, improving both outbound and inbound vehicle movement.

Ashwani Gupta, CEO and Whole-time Director of Adani Ports, stated, “By combining APSEZ’s integrated infrastructure capabilities with Motherson’s expertise, we are creating a seamless, resilient network for vehicle movement across the country. This RoRo (Roll on and Roll off) terminal will not only accelerate trade and enhance supply chain efficiency but also deliver long-term value to our customers and the communities we serve.”

The companies said the development will position Dighi Port as a major export point for vehicle manufacturers based in the Mumbai and Pune region.

Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of the Motherson Group, asserted the collaboration aligns with its goal of delivering integrated logistics solutions to the automobile industry. He further added that the terminal would help lower transportation costs and improve efficiency for carmakers.

The new facility will, however, include advanced systems to manage the complete handling of finished vehicles, offering smoother services for automotive manufacturers shipping to and from global markets.

SAMRX plans to invest in the terminal and expand its logistics offerings, providing full cargo tracking and visibility across the supply chain.

Dighi Port serves industrial zones across Maharashtra and offers a mix of warehousing, storage yards and other facilities to support freight movements.

Adani Ports handles about 28% of India’s port cargo and plans to lift throughput from 633 million tonnes to one billion tonnes by 2030.
