Bihar Assembly Elections: Maithili Thakur Leads Alinagar With Over 4,100 Votes

Folk singer Maithili Thakur, contesting on a BJP ticket, surged ahead in Bihar’s Alinagar Assembly constituency on Thursday.

She secured an early lead of 4,113 votes, according to initial trends released by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Thakur, contesting her first election, outpaced RJD candidate Binod Mishra as counting progressed through the morning.

The 25-year-old singer from Benipatti, Madhubani, entered the political arena with a massive cultural fan base across Mithilanchal.

The BJP strategically fielded her to tap into her strong youth following and regional influence.

As counting moved into successive rounds, her early momentum signalled a significant advantage for the party in a highly watched seat.

While Alinagar witnessed an intense contest, the broader state picture also shifted rapidly.

The NDA crossed the crucial 122-seat majority mark early in the day and continued to strengthen its position.

By 10:30 AM, ECI trends showed the alliance leading in 172 constituencies across the 243-seat Bihar Legislative Assembly.

The BJP led in 73 seats, JD(U) in 77, LJP(RV) in 18, and HAMS in four.

The Mahagathbandhan trailed with leads in 54 seats, with the RJD ahead in 42, Congress in seven, and CPI(ML)(L) in five.

Despite the numbers, the Opposition bloc maintained optimism and reiterated its confidence that Bihar had ‘voted for change.’

RJD leaders claimed that the mandate would ultimately pave the way for Tejashwi Yadav to form the next government.

Counting began at 8 AM, starting with postal ballots before moving to Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) votes at 8:30 AM.

The process unfolded under strict, multi-layered security arrangements across all districts. 243 Returning Officers and an equal number of Counting Observers supervised the operations.

Leaders from the NDA declared that the trends reflected the public’s trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantees.

They also said the results showed confidence in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s development efforts.

They asserted that voters had rewarded the government’s work on infrastructure, welfare schemes, and law-and-order improvements.

As the day progressed, all eyes remained on key battleground seats like Alinagar, where Maithili Thakur’s strong performance continued to energise BJP supporters across Mithilanchal.
