Voting in the second and final phase of the Bihar Assembly elections began at 7 AM on Tuesday, covering 122 constituencies across 20 districts.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), 31.38% of votes were cast till 11 AM, indicating strong public participation. The polling remained peaceful with tight security measures in place.
Kishanganj led the turnout charts with 34.74%, followed by Gaya at 34.07% and Jamui at 33.69%.
Other districts also reported encouraging participation: West Champaran (32.39%), East Champaran (31.16%), Sheohar (31.58%), Sitamarhi (29.81%), Madhubani (28.66%), Supaul (31.69%), Araria (31.88%), Purnia (32.94%), Katihar (30.83%), and Bhagalpur (29.08%).
Further, Banka recorded 32.91%, Kaimur 31.98%, Rohtas 29.80%, Arwal 31.07%, Jehanabad 30.36%, Aurangabad 32.88%, Gaya 34.07%, Nawada 29.02%, and Jamui 33.69%.
Enthusiastic Voters and Tight Security
Long queues were seen outside several polling booths as voters arrived early to cast their votes.
The ECI reported that over 3.7 crore voters are eligible to decide the political fate of 1,302 candidates in this phase.
Authorities deployed around four lakh security personnel across 20 districts to ensure smooth polling.
They set up a total of 45,399 polling stations, including 5,326 in urban areas and 40,073 in rural regions.
Officials reported no major incidents, crediting the high voter turnout to increased awareness and security arrangements.
Key Contests and Political Stakes
The second phase features several high-profile contests, with major leaders from both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) in the fray.
From the NDA, 53 candidates are contesting on BJP tickets, 44 from JD(U), 15 from LJP (Ram Vilas), six from Hindustani Awam Morcha, and four from Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
On the opposition side, the Grand Alliance has fielded 71 candidates from RJD, 37 from Congress, six from CPI(ML), four from CPI, eight from VIP, and one from CPI(M).
The first phase of polling, held on November 6, covered 121 of the 243 Assembly constituencies and recorded 27.65% turnout by 11 AM.
Several key districts are witnessing intense electoral contests in the second and final phase, which will shape the overall outcome of the election.
With voter enthusiasm running high and peaceful polling reported across Bihar, the Election Commission expressed optimism about a strong democratic turnout in this decisive phase of the state’s 2025 Assembly elections.
