PIB Fact Check Debunks AI-Generated Video Of PM Modi Circulating On Social Media

The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit clarified that an AI-generated fake video on social media falsely shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi making statements on religion, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

The video, shared widely by several pro-Pakistani accounts, falsely portrays the Prime Minister making comments that he has never made.

In a post on X, PIB Fact Check reported that pro-Pakistani handles were circulating a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, falsely showing him making statements on religious issues and about Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The bureau added, “This is an #AI-generated fake video. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not made any such statement.

Officials warned that such manipulations mislead people and aim to damage social harmony and national unity.

Warning Against Misinformation

PIB cautioned citizens not to forward or amplify such misleading videos and warned that malicious actors create them to harm the country’s social harmony and amity.

The agency also advised users to rely only on official and verified sources for accurate information, highlighting the increasing use of AI tools to generate deepfake content that can distort public discourse.

Experts have repeatedly raised concerns about the growing misuse of artificial intelligence in digital propaganda. They warned that AI-generated videos can closely mimic real people and events, making it harder for viewers to distinguish truth from fabrication.

The government has been intensifying its efforts to curb the spread of misinformation. It focuses especially on content that may affect public order or international relations.

PIB encouraged citizens to watch verified footage only from official government channels and avoid misleading content.

By issuing this clarification, the bureau reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring digital authenticity. It also emphasised the importance of maintaining public trust in an era increasingly dominated by synthetic media.
