Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled two major initiatives, the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission, aimed at strengthening the welfare and self-sufficiency of farmers across the country.

Speaking at a special Krishi programme in New Delhi, PM Modi said the new schemes would transform the lives of farmers and help India move closer to agricultural independence.

“Today, on this historic day, for the country’s self-reliance, for the welfare of farmers, two important schemes are being launched. First, the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, and second the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission. These two schemes are for the self-reliance of the country, and will change the fate of millions of farmers in India,” PM Modi stated.

He asserted, “Agriculture and farming have always been a part of our development journey. It is very important that the government continues to support agriculture and farming in keeping with the changing times.”

The Prime Minister further added that the previous administrations had neglected the farming sector, leaving it weakened over time.

“For India in the 21st Century to achieve rapid development, it was necessary to reform its agricultural system as well, and this began after 2014. For the past 11 years, the government’s continuous effort has been to empower farmers and increase investment in agriculture,” PM Modi noted.

Highlighting the wide scope of the reforms, PM Modi further added, “We have undertaken reforms, from seeds to the market, in the interest of farmers.”

Framework of PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana

Explaining the framework of the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, the Prime Minister noted that 100 districts remain identified based on three key criteria: crop yield, frequency of cultivation, and availability of financial access for farmers.

“In this scheme, we are integrating 36 government schemes,” the Prime Minister said.

Turning to the Dalhan Aatmnirbharta Mission, which has an outlay of Rs 11,440 crore, the Prime Minister said it was more than just an initiative to boost pulse production; it was a mission to build a stronger, healthier future.

“This is not just a mission to increase pulse production but also a campaign to empower our future generations,” he remarked.

PM Modi underlined the importance of nutrition alongside food security, stressing that pulses play a vital role in a protein-rich diet, especially for vegetarians.

“While wheat and rice can satiate hunger, more nutrition is important, especially for people taking a vegetarian diet,” the Prime Minister emphasised.
