Security arrangements were tightened across central Delhi on Monday as INDIA bloc parties prepared to march from Connaught Place towards the Supreme Court to protest alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The Opposition plans to demand action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Congress workers gathered outside the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters and raised slogans against the Chief Election Commissioner ahead of the proposed march.

The demonstration forms part of the INDIA bloc’s continuing campaign against the electoral roll revision exercise.

Congress MP Karamvir Singh Boudh said the march aimed to protect the Constitution and seek judicial intervention over the issues raised by the Opposition. He said the Supreme Court had a responsibility to examine alleged violations of constitutional provisions.

The proposed demonstration prompted heightened security measures and a traffic advisory for New Delhi and central Delhi.

The Delhi Traffic Police warned of disruptions from 6 am, with diversions and barricades possible at around 30 locations, including Connaught Place, Dhaula Kuan, Patel Chowk and Mandi House.

Police advised commuters to plan ahead and allow extra travel time, especially those heading to railway stations, bus terminals or the airport.

Security personnel remained deployed around Jantar Mantar, the designated protest site.

Barricades blocked access roads to the area on Sunday, while police officers monitored key intersections to regulate movement and prevent unauthorised gatherings.

The heightened security comes amid the Opposition’s campaign against the SIR exercise, with the proposed march seeking judicial scrutiny of its allegations.
