The Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s interim verdict on the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, calling it a balanced and historic decision that promotes unity, justice, and social harmony.
The decision, which has sparked widespread discussions in political and social circles, was lauded by the national convener of MRM, Shahid Sayeed, and the head of its women’s wing, Dr Shalini Ali.
Supreme Court’s Order and Legal Implications
The Supreme Court has temporarily stayed several controversial provisions of the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, which various quarters had opposed.
The provisions under scrutiny included the five-year requirement for Muslims to adhere to Islam, the collector’s authority to determine Waqf properties, and the executive powers related to decisions on Waqf assets.
The court made it clear that it will give a final ruling after detailed hearings, but it found no basis for completely striking down the Act. As a result, the rest of the Act will remain in force while the court addresses the disputed sections.
MRM’s National Convener Shahid Sayeed Praises the Verdict
Shahid Sayeed, national convener of the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, expressed his approval of the Supreme Court’s decision, calling it a respectful and balanced judgment. He emphasised that the verdict strengthens national unity and integrity.
Sayeed said, “The Supreme Court’s decision is balanced and reassuring. It has resolved the confusion among Muslims and reassured them. The decision comes after hearing both sides, which reinforces the belief that the judiciary is committed to delivering impartial decisions and safeguarding the democratic values of India.”
Dr Shalini Ali, the national head of MRM’s women’s wing, however, described the verdict as a testament to the impartiality of India’s judiciary.
She highlighted that the Supreme Court has not only addressed the legal issues surrounding the Waqf Amendment Act but has also worked to strengthen social harmony and inclusivity.
Dr Ali stated, “The verdict proves that the judiciary respects the sentiments of every community. It resolves the confusion caused among Muslims and fosters social harmony. This is a decision that upholds the principles of justice and inclusivity, and the Muslim Rashtriya Manch welcomes it wholeheartedly.”
The MRM linked the Supreme Court’s decision to the fundamental rights in the Indian Constitution, especially Articles 14, 25, and 300A.
According to the organisation, the verdict is a practical interpretation of these constitutional provisions and underscores the importance of social justice and constitutional morality.
The organisation, however, praised the Court for rejecting religious restrictions and ensuring that executive powers do not unfairly limit property rights.
Focus on Transparency and Accountability in Waqf Management
The Muslim Rashtriya Manch emphasised the need for better management of Waqf properties to benefit the poor, needy, widows, and marginalised communities.
The organisation further emphasised that the decision will guide the Waqf management towards greater transparency and accountability. It will ensure that authorities use the properties effectively for social welfare.
The MRM reiterated that the goal is to utilise Waqf assets for nation-building and uplifting the underprivileged. The government must ensure these resources reach their intended beneficiaries.
