Prime Minister Modi embarked on a high-profile visit to West Bengal and Bihar, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several strategic and developmental projects aimed at bolstering India’s defence preparedness, regional connectivity, and economic growth.
The visit began in Kolkata, where PM Modi will inaugurate the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference-2025 at around 9:30 AM.
The three-day conference, likely from 15 to 17 September, will bring together the country’s top military leadership and senior civilian officials.
With the theme ‘Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future’, the conference will underline the government’s vision of long-term military modernisation and operational transformation.
New Interim Terminal at Purnea Airport
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will travel to Purnia, Bihar, to inaugurate the new Interim Terminal Building of the New Civil Enclave at Purnea Airport.
This new facility is likely to significantly enhance passenger capacity and improve air connectivity in northeastern Bihar.
In a major boost to regional development, PM Modi will launch and inaugurate projects worth about Rs 36,000 crore.
Among the most significant is Bihar’s largest private-sector investment: the 3×800 MW Thermal Power Project at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur, valued at Rs 25,000 crore.
Equipped with ultra-super critical, low-emission technology, the project will strengthen Bihar’s energy security.
The PM will also launch Phase 1 of the Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project, worth over Rs 2,680 crore, which will likely enhance irrigation, mitigate flood risks, and support agriculture by improving canal capacity and rehabilitating vital infrastructure.
To further Bihar’s agricultural prominence, Prime Minister Modi will unveil the National Makhana Board, which will focus on boosting production, technology adoption, value addition, and global marketing of Bihar’s makhana, which accounts for nearly 90 per cent of India’s output.
Additionally, PM Modi will distribute Rs 500 crore in Community Investment Funds to Cluster Level Federations under the DAY-NRLM scheme.
Symbolic cheques will be handed over to selected CLF leaders during the programme.
The Prime Minister will also lay foundation stones for multiple railway projects and flag off new train services, strengthening rail connectivity and passenger convenience across Bihar.
