Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday praised the Indian diaspora in Japan for preserving India’s cultural identity while making meaningful contributions to Japanese society.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came shortly after he arrived in Tokyo for a two-day official visit to participate in the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Deeply touched by the warmth and affection of the Indian community here in Tokyo. Their commitment to preserving our cultural roots while contributing meaningfully to Japanese society is truly commendable. In a few hours from now, will be interacting with a group of business leaders with a focus on adding vigour to India-Japan trade and investment ties.”

The Indian community turned out in large numbers to welcome the Prime Minister, greeting him with traditional performances and enthusiastic cheers.
The vibrant reception reflected the growing influence and integration of Indians within Japanese society, and the strength of people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Official Welcome and Strategic Intent
Upon his arrival, PM Modi was received by ONO Keiichi, Japan’s Ambassador to India, Sibi George, India’s Ambassador to Japan, and other senior dignitaries.

The Prime Minister noted that the visit presented an opportunity to strengthen existing partnerships and explore new areas of collaboration with Japan.
Following the conclusion of his visit, PM Modi will travel to China to participate in the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
This will be his first visit to China since 2018, making it a significant stop on his ongoing diplomatic tour of Asia.
As India strengthens its regional outreach, PM Modi’s engagements in Tokyo signal a clear focus on strategic alignment, economic diplomacy, and cultural cooperation.
