EPFO added a record 21.89 lakh members in June 2025, led by youth, rejoining workers, and rising female participation.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) reported a record net addition of 21.89 lakh members in June 2025, the highest since payroll data tracking began in April 2018, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.

The June data reflects a 9.14% rise in net payroll additions compared with May and a 13.46% increase on a year-on-year basis.

Officials said the trend highlights both rising employment opportunities and growing awareness of social security benefits, supported by EPFO’s outreach initiatives.

The EPFO enrolled around 10.62 lakh new subscribers during June, a 12.68% increase over May and 3.61% higher than June 2024.

The 18–25 age group dominated new enrolments, with 6.39 lakh subscribers, about 60.22% of the total. This segment saw a 14.08% rise from May, underlining the growing participation of young first-time job seekers in the organised sector.

Net payroll additions for the 18–25 age group stood at 9.72 lakh in June, up 11.41% from the previous month and 12.15% higher than a year ago.

Rejoining Members Strengthen Social Security

June also recorded 16.93 lakh members rejoining the EPFO, a 5.09% increase from May and a 19.65% rise compared with June 2024.

These members had earlier exited the system but re-joined after switching jobs, opting to transfer their provident fund balances rather than settle, thereby safeguarding long-term savings and retaining social security cover.

The data revealed a steady rise in female workforce participation. Around 3.02 lakh new female subscribers joined in June, reflecting a 14.92% month-on-month increase and a 1.34% rise over June 2024.

Net female payroll additions reached 4.72 lakh, showing an 11.11% monthly increase and 10.29% annual growth. The EPFO said the figures indicate progress towards a more inclusive and diverse workforce.
