Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday made her first public outing since the shocking attack against her during a grievance hearing earlier this week. She attended a scheduled programme at Ashok Bazaar in Gandhi Nagar.

In anticipation of her visit, Gandhi Nagar Market was placed under heavy security cover.

Shops in the vicinity were ordered to remain shut, while Delhi Police and CRPF personnel maintained a strong presence across the area.

Multiple checkpoints were set up, and traffic was diverted, creating what locals described as a ‘tense but orderly’ atmosphere.

The event marked Gupta’s return to public life following the 21 August incident at her Civil Lines residence, where she was allegedly slapped and attacked during a ‘Jan Sunvai’ by Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya.

Security at her official residence has since been tightened, with CRPF personnel deployed round the clock.

Political Leaders Extend Support

Senior political leaders cutting across party lines met Delhi CM Rekha Gupta to express solidarity after the attack. These include:

  • Manoj Tiwari
  • Ramvir Singh Bidhuri
  • Yogendra Chandolia
  • Praveen Khandelwal
  • Bansuri Swaraj

The accused, Rajesh Bhai, was produced before the court on Thursday and remanded to five days of police custody. He faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:

  • Attempt to murder (Section 109),
  • Obstruction of a public servant (Section 132), and
  • Impeding official duties (Section 221)

Adding a new dimension to the case, CCTV footage dated August 19 has surfaced showing Rajesh arriving at Gupta’s Shalimar Bagh residence on a cycle rickshaw.

The video reportedly captures him entering and leaving the premises multiple times, allegedly conducting a recce.

It has also emerged that residence staff may have provided him with a slip carrying details of the Chief Minister’s Civil Lines address and her ‘Jan Sunvai’ schedule, information believed to have assisted in planning the attack.
