
Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, who allegedly attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a Jan Sunvai programme on Wednesday, has been remanded to police custody for five days.
An attempt to murder case was registered against the 41-year-old on the same day.
Investigators are questioning him to establish the motive behind the incident.
Delhi Police said in a statement, “In the matter of the attack on the Chief Minister, a case u/s 109(1)/132/221 BNS has been registered at PS Civil Lines. The accused has been taken into police custody. Further investigation is going on. We are investigating it from all the possible angles.”
The charges include attempt to murder, obstructing a public servant, and preventing a public servant from carrying out official duties.
Officials confirmed that central agencies and the Special Cell are also involved in the interrogation.
According to the police, Rajesh travelled from Rajkot to Delhi by train on Tuesday morning – his first visit to the capital. He stayed at Gujarati Bhavan in Civil Lines and later went to Chief Minister Gupta’s residence in Shalimar Bagh, which he also mentioned in a phone call to a friend.

According to police, five cases have been registered against him at Bhaktinagar Police Station in Rajkot. He was acquitted in four, while one case is still pending, with the next hearing scheduled for 9 September.
The Gujarat Police have been contacted for additional information, though an official confirmation on further details is awaited.
