Western Disturbance:
North India is likely to experience a slight spike in the minimum temperature from the cold wave conditions prevailing in the region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Moreover, the weather agency has predicted rainfall in several parts of North India this week due to the Western Disturbance.
Today’s Weather Update:
Heavy rainfall or snowfall is expected in isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and hail are possible at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh.
Dense fog is very likely at isolated places over Odisha.
Rainfall is Predicted in Northern Region
Due to Western cyclonic disturbance, light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall is very likely over the Western Himalayan Region on January 23, with its intensity and distribution likely to increase thereafter to fairly widespread to widespread rainfall or snowfall from January 24-26.
Meanwhile, isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall has been forecast over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on January 24 and 25 and over Uttarakhand on January 25 and 26.
Moreover, light isolated rainfall is predicted over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on January 23. It might increase thereafter to scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm activity from January 24-26.

Officials on Weather Report
The IMD scientist, Dr Soma Sen Roy said, “Due to Western disturbance, heavy rainfall is likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on January 24 and 25. Light rain and cloudy weather are likely in Delhi from January 24 to 26. There’s a dip in temperature now, to continue for the next 5 days. Towards the end of next week, min temp to rise and max temperature to fall.”
Ahead of the heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, J&K’s officials have issued an ‘orange alert’ in the region.
