Over the past few days, several social media posts have been widely shared, claiming that India Post will stop offering Registered Post from September 1, 2025.
The posts sparked concern among citizens and businesses that rely on this service for secure and legally valid communication.
In response, the Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit confirmed that the claim is misleading. While the term ‘Registered Post’ will no longer exist as a standalone category, the service itself is not being discontinued. Instead, it is being integrated with Speed Post, India Post’s premium postal service.
Taking to X, PIB posted, “Is India Post Really Ending Registered Post? Registered Post is not getting discontinued. It is merging with Speed Post. What Remains Unchanged?
India Post has assured customers that all the core features of Registered Post will continue under the merged service, including:
- Person-specific delivery: Ensuring that the item is delivered only to the intended recipient.
- Delivery receipt: Providing official proof that the item has been delivered.
- Real-time tracking allows senders and recipients to monitor the parcel’s journey.
- Legal validity; Maintaining its status as admissible evidence in courts.
- Acknowledgements, including the option for signed delivery confirmation.
This integration aims to simplify postal services, reduce duplication, and provide faster delivery without losing the security and legal safeguards that Registered Post offers.
According to India Post, the merger of Registered Post with Speed Post will enhance efficiency and delivery speed while still providing all the traditional safeguards customers rely on.
It is part of a broader postal modernisation strategy to align with evolving customer needs and improve overall service quality.
Postal service experts believe the change will benefit consumers.
By combining Speed Post’s rapid delivery network with the legal and security features of Registered Post, India Post can offer a more streamlined and reliable service without significantly increasing costs.
The viral social media posts claiming the end of Registered Post are misleading. Customers can continue to use the service; it will simply fall under the Speed Post umbrella from September 2025.
The next time such claims surface online, it is always best to verify them through official channels such as the PIB Fact Check handle or the India Post website.
