Indian Army has launched ‘Operation Shiva 2025’, a comprehensive security operation to ensure safety and smooth conduct of the annual 38-day Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to commence from July 3, an official said on Friday.
Every year, the Army, along with CAPFs and local security agencies, undertakes enhanced security measures. These efforts support the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.
However, this year, the security operation assumes added significance due to heightened threats from Pakistan following the dastardly terror attack in Pahalgam.
The security initiative will be conducted in close coordination with the civil administration and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). The operation aims to establish a thorough security framework along both the northern and southern routes of the Yatra.
More than 8500 troops deployed on Yatra routes
As part of additional security measures for 2025, more than 8,500 personnel have been deployed. The troops will be supported by a slew of tech-enabled tools and operational strategies.
A multi-layered counter terrorism grid, preventive security deployments, and corridor protection measures have been instituted.
Moreover, the Army is providing multi-domain support to the civil authorities, especially in areas of emergency response and disaster relief.
According to the Army, a detailed counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) grid is being deployed. It includes over 50 C-UAS and electronic warfare systems to counter potential drone threats.
Unmanned aerial vehicle surveillance mission and live observation of the Yatra routes and the holy cave to ensure real-time situational awareness.
The army will also deploy engineer task forces to ensure bridge construction, clearing tracks and disaster mitigation.
More than 150 doctors and medical staff with two advanced dressing stations, nine medical aid posts, a 100-bed hospital, and 26 oxygen booths, and availability of 2,00,000 litres of oxygen ensured, the army said on Friday.
The Indian Army helicopter will remain on standby to respond to any contingency situation swiftly.
