Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, on an official visit to the United Kingdom, emphasised India’s growing strength in digital infrastructure, fintech innovation, and economic resilience.
The visit comes shortly after the signing of the landmark India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in May 2025.
During his visit, Goyal met with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, where they discussed deepening cooperation in financial systems, sustainable finance, and unlocking new avenues in trade.

The talks aimed at further strengthening the India-UK economic partnership, particularly through enhanced collaboration in finance and investment.
The Minister also held a discussion with Oliver Prill, CEO of UK-based business financial platform Tide.

Championing innovation at Future Frontiers Forum
At the Future Frontiers Forum in London, Goyal engaged with Sir Ian Blatchford, Director and Chief Executive of the Science Museum Group.
There, he spotlighted India’s progress in digital innovation, underlining the country’s capabilities in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, low-cost tech solutions, and skilled manpower.
Goyal stressed how India’s scalable digital public infrastructure, coupled with its dynamic talent pool, could provide innovative models for global collaboration.
He also emphasised the role of the India-UK FTA in fostering cooperation in science, research, and technology.
At the India Global Forum (IGF) 2025 in London, Goyal presented India’s broader economic strategy, calling the India-UK FTA a transformative agreement.
He reiterated that the FTA reflects the shared vision of both nations and marks a shift from traditional trade deals to future-oriented economic frameworks.
Goyal said the agreement not only boosts bilateral trade but also reinforces India’s global negotiating strength.
He was joined by UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, in a discussion moderated by international journalist Mark Barton.

His engagements reaffirmed the mutual ambition of India and the UK to shape a modern, technology-driven economic alliance for the future.
