Mumbai Indians have appointed former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard as their head coach, marking a new chapter in his 16-year association with the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions.
The franchise announced the appointment on Saturday, October 24, promoting Pollard from his recent role as batting coach. He joined Mumbai Indians at 22 and became a key figure during their most successful period.
Pollard has remained closely connected with the franchise since transitioning from playing to coaching. His understanding of the team’s culture, players and approach to T20 cricket is expected to guide him in his new role.
His extensive experience in franchise-based T20 cricket has also given him valuable insight into the format’s tactical demands and evolving competitive landscape.
Reacting to the appointment, Pollard described the role as an honour and thanked the franchise’s leadership for trusting him.
“It is an honour to take on the role of Head Coach of Mumbai Indians. MI has been a huge part of my life and career, and the bond I share with this team, the players and the Paltan means a great deal to me,” Pollard said.
He also expressed his commitment to developing players, working with the support staff and building on the franchise’s legacy.
Mumbai Indians co-owner Nita M Ambani welcomed Pollard’s elevation, highlighting his contribution over the past 16 years.
She said Pollard had delivered memorable moments as a player and continued to share his passion and understanding of the game as a coach.
Pollard will now lead Mumbai Indians into their next phase as the franchise seeks to strengthen its position and add to its IPL achievements.
