Air India cancelled its Delhi–Paris flight AI 143 on Tuesday after mandatory pre-flight inspections revealed an issue requiring immediate attention.
The airline stated that the matter is currently being resolved.
As a result of the cancellation, the return flight AI 142 from Paris to Delhi, scheduled for June 18, 2025, was also cancelled.
Paris Airport night restrictions impact operations
Air India cited night-time operational restrictions at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Airport as a contributing factor.
“In view of the flight falling under CDG’s night operation restrictions, we have cancelled the service,” the airline said in an official statement.
The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and announced that it is arranging alternative flights for affected passengers at the earliest opportunity.
Air India also confirmed that it is offering hotel accommodation, full refunds, and complimentary rescheduling for all impacted travellers.
Ahmedabad–London flight AI 159 cancelled
Earlier on Tuesday, Air India cancelled Flight AI-159 from Ahmedabad to London-Gatwick, citing airspace restrictions and extended turnaround time due to precautionary checks.
The airline clarified the cancellation and countered earlier speculation by stating it did not result from any technical failure.
Routine checks raised red flags, prompting Air India to ground the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner just hours before its scheduled 1:10 p.m. departure.
Chaos at Ahmedabad airport as passengers stranded
The abrupt cancellation stranded many international passengers and created confusion and distress at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The scene was particularly tense as several travellers were still recovering emotionally from last week’s crash, which claimed 241 lives onboard and raised the death toll to 270.
This was the second cancellation on the Ahmedabad–London route within four days.
On June 14, Air India cancelled a similar flight after the tragic crash of Flight AI 171 and has since retired that flight number, replacing it with Flight AI 159.
San Francisco–Mumbai flight faces engine trouble
An engine snag discovered during technical checks early Tuesday forced Air India to halt its journey from San Francisco to Mumbai via Kolkata at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport.
In light of the recent string of cancellations and operational anomalies, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) called for an urgent virtual meeting with top officials from both Air India and Air India Express to assess the situation and reinforce safety and compliance protocols.
