
In a significant diplomatic engagement, an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor met Brazil’s Acting Foreign Minister, Maria Laura da Rocha, in Brasilia.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation on counter-terrorism, multilateralism, and shared democratic values.

The Indian side thanked Brazil for understanding and supporting India’s stance following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian Embassy in Brazil shared that the delegation expressed India’s bipartisan commitment to fighting terrorism.

They lauded Brazil’s solidarity with India in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack and emphasised the importance of joint global efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border attacks.
Meetings With Brazilian Leadership
The Indian delegation, which includes MPs from across the political spectrum, Congress, BJP, Shiv Sena, LJP (Ram Vilas), JMM, and TDP, also met Brazilian Senator Nelson Trad Filho, President of the India-Brazil Friendship Front in the Federal Senate.

Discussions revolved around enhancing strategic ties and addressing cross-border terrorism, including India’s firm stance under Operation Sindoor.
Further, the team met Ambassador Celso Amorim, Chief Diplomatic Adviser to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
During the meeting, Tharoor and other members briefed Amorim on India’s firm response to the Pahalgam terror attack and reiterated India’s position of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
The visit is part of India’s broader diplomatic campaign to reinforce international cooperation in counter-terrorism, especially in light of ‘Operation Sindoor’, a decisive Indian response targeting cross-border terror bases.
Ambassador Amorim expressed strong support, stating Brazil stands firmly with India in its fight against global terrorism.
The nine-member Indian delegation comprises MPs Shashi Tharoor, Tejasvi Surya, Milind Deora, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Shambhavi Choudhary, Sarfaraz Ahmad, GM Harish Balayogi, Shashank Mani Tripathi, and Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
The visit to Brazil follows engagements in Guyana, Panama, and Colombia, as part of India’s outreach to Latin America on security and strategic cooperation.
India and Brazil, both active in multilateral platforms like BRICS and G20, continue to strengthen ties based on mutual respect and democratic values.
The delegation affirmed its commitment to deepening this relationship, especially through shared efforts against terrorism and promoting peace and global security.
