The Elon Musk-owned social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, suffered a major outage on Saturday, disrupting access for users globally, including in India.
Users reported being unable to log in, load new posts, or access the app and website.
Downdetector Confirms Widespread Issues
Outage tracking service Downdetector recorded thousands of complaints worldwide.
In India, a significant number of users attempted to access the site but faced login failures and performance issues.
Downdetector reported that 41% of users couldn’t log in, another 41% faced app-related problems, and 18% struggled with the website interface.
Musk Run-X Engineering Team Acknowledges Data Centre Outage
Responding to the disruption, the X Engineering team acknowledged the issue in a public post.
“X is aware some of our users are experiencing performance issues on the platform today. We are experiencing a data centre outage and the team is actively working to remediate the issue,” the company stated.
This marks the second outage within 24 hours. On Friday, the platform experienced a similar disruption, preventing millions from accessing posts and account features.
Past Cyberattacks Cited By Musk
Back in March, Elon Musk had revealed that a massive cyberattack temporarily crippled the X platform. He claimed a well-coordinated group or a nation-state may have been behind the attack.
“We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources,” Musk stated in a post.
“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X,” he added, calling it an attempt to silence him and the platform.
Platform Rarely Experienced Outages Before Musk Takeover
Since Musk acquired X for $44 billion in October 2022, the platform had maintained relatively stable operations compared to other major social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
The recent back-to-back outages have raised concerns among users and tech observers.
