Security forces arrested 29 militants and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition in Manipur. The Army, Assam Rifles, CAPF, and Manipur Police carried out joint operations over the past few days.
A Defence spokesperson said the teams recovered 28 weapons, grenades, IEDs, and ammunition. They also found other war-like items during the raids.
Forces conducted the operations in seven districts — Churachandpur, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Senapati, Imphal East, and Imphal West. These areas include both hills and valleys.
Based on intelligence, the forces arrested 29 militants. The cadres belong to banned outfits like the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP).
They recovered self-loading rifles, single-barrel rifles, improvised mortars (Pompi), bolt-action rifles, modified carbine machine guns, a .22 rifle, and pistols.
The forces handed over all arrested militants and seized weapons to the Manipur Police.
The Defence spokesperson said the operations show a strong push to restore peace in Manipur.
In a separate operation, Manipur Police arrested five more militants in Imphal West. One of them is a woman cadre.
Police also recovered two stolen vehicles during an anti-theft drive in the past 24 hours.
Ethnic violence since 3 May 2023 has led to many vehicle thefts. Police launched a special drive on 16 April to tackle this.
Since then, they have recovered over 167 stolen cars and 35 two-wheelers.
