Foxconn’s new electronics manufacturing facility in Bengaluru is on the brink of commencement, with commercial shipments of iPhones expected to begin as early as June.
Karnataka’s Minister for Commerce and Industries, MB Patil, made the announcement on Saturday, highlighting the significance of the development for both the state and India’s broader manufacturing ambitions.
Patil further shared the news in a post on the X social media platform, revealing that the facility at Devanahalli ITIR (Information Technology Investment Region) is nearing completion.
“This is not just a manufacturing milestone. It marks a strategic shift,” he said.
India Emerges As Apple’s Preferred Production Hub
Patil went on to underscore that this move signals a wider shift in global production dynamics.
Amid rising geopolitical and tariff pressures, India is swiftly becoming Apple’s favoured location for iPhone production.
Reports suggest that Apple may even shift its entire assembly of iPhones destined for the US to India by next year.
Patil further added that this development strengthens Karnataka’s position in global manufacturing and opens the door to greater foreign investment, emphasising that the state will achieve this growth without compromising stakeholder interests.
Apple’s Commitment To India
Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that manufacturers in India will produce the majority of iPhones sold in the US during the June quarter, further solidifying the country’s role in Apple’s global operations.

Cook’s statement reinforces the significance of India’s growing manufacturing capabilities and the strategic importance of the country to the tech giant.
Patil, expressing pride in Karnataka’s growing prominence, remarked, “As a Kannadiga, this is a proud moment. From Mysuru to Cupertino, Karnataka is making global headlines.”
‘Make In India’ Achieving Global Scale
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, echoed Patil’s sentiments, noting that India is now fulfilling the “Make in India” vision at a global scale.
The increasing scale of operations by Apple’s contract manufacturers in India underscores this progress.
Foxconn’s Bengaluru plant, once at full capacity, is projected to produce up to 20 million iPhones annually, significantly boosting India’s role in the global tech supply chain.
India’s Growing Share Of Apple’s Global iPhone Production
The scale of India’s contribution to Apple’s iPhone manufacturing is impressive.
Over the past year, manufacturers in India further assembled iPhones worth \$22 billion, with Foxconn’s Tamil Nadu-based plant contributing nearly half of Apple’s exports.
Exports from Foxconn’s factory have seen a notable jump of more than 40 per cent compared to the previous year.
Currently, India accounts for almost 20 per cent of Apple’s total global iPhone production, underlining the country’s importance to the brand’s manufacturing and supply chain strategies.
Record iPhone Shipments In India
Apple’s success in India is not limited to manufacturing.
The Indian market itself has witnessed significant growth, with more than three million iPhones shipped from India in the first quarter of 2025, setting a new record.
This surge in production and export further reflects not only India’s strategic importance in Apple’s global operations but also its emerging status as a key player in the worldwide tech manufacturing landscape.
