In a country of over a billion, some stories shine through for their soul—like the one that unfolded on Monday in Haryana’s Yamunanagar, bringing tears to many eyes and revealing the quiet greatness of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rampal Kashyap, a daily-wage labourer from Kangthali village in Kaithal, had made a vow in 2012. He decided not to wear footwear until Narendra Modi became Prime Minister and personally asked him to wear shoes.
Rampal’s journey was one of deep faith. For 14 years, he walked barefoot through scorching summers and harsh winters.
“It wasn’t just a pledge. It was a prayer,” said Rampal. “Every step reminded me of the leader I believed in. I knew one day I would meet him.”
Former MLA Steps In To Fulfill Rampal’s Dream
Though PM Modi became Prime Minister in 2014 and again in 2019, Rampal waited. For him, the vow would be complete only when PM Modi himself told him to wear shoes. That moment finally came, thanks to former Guhla MLA Kulwant Bazigar.
Bazigar heard about Rampal’s story and was deeply moved.
On April 10, 2025, he wrote directly to the Prime Minister, sharing Rampal’s 14-year-long vow. PM Modi’s office responded swiftly, inviting Rampal as a special guest to the Yamunanagar rally.
PM Modi Keeps His Word With Humility And Compassion
At the event, amid tight security and cheering crowds, Rampal met the man he had followed in faith. PM Modi noticed him instantly.
“Arre bhai, aapne aisa kyun kar diya?” he asked. Rampal replied, “I vowed to stay barefoot until you personally asked me to wear shoes.”
PM Modi then took Rampal’s hand, sat him beside him, and helped him wear shoes. He gently said, “Promise me—never do something like this again. Use your energy for good work, not pain.”
It was a powerful moment. Rampal, overcome with emotion, said, “This feels like seeing God. My dream has come true.”
Later, PM Modi shared the moment on X: “At today’s rally in Yamunanagar, I met Shri Rampal Kashyap Ji from Kaithal. He had taken a vow 14 years ago. I am humbled by people like Rampal Ji. Please focus on social work and nation building.”
The beauty of the moment lay in PM Modi’s humility. He didn’t just acknowledge Rampal from a distance. He met his faith with compassion and fulfilled the 14-year-old vow with grace.
Rampal’s sister-in-law, Sunita, said, “He lived this vow. It was about commitment to belief.”
As Rampal walked away—this time in shoes—he said, “If the faith is pure and the intent is strong, blessings will surely come.”
By fulfilling Rampal’s dream, PM Modi fulfilled a 14-year vow with heart and humanity. He showed the strength of a leader who listens, feels, and uplifts.
