PM Modi Arrives In Mauritius; Receives Ceremonial Welcome

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Mauritius for his two-day State visit, where he was welcomed with full ceremonial honors.

Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam personally received him at the airport, highlighting the warmth of bilateral ties.

Excitement filled the atmosphere as members of the Indian diaspora gathered at the airport to see the Indian Prime Minister.

As per ANI, Sharad Barnwal, a community member, shared his enthusiasm.

He stated, “We are all very excited. We have gathered here since morning. The friendship between India and Mauritius has always been great, and after this visit of PM Modi, the relationship will get stronger.”

Dr. Kadambini Acharya, Director of the Cultural Centre at the High Commission of India in Mauritius, expressed similar sentiments.

“We have gathered here to welcome PM Modi. Have been preparing to welcome PM Modi for the last 1 month. We will be very happy to meet and welcome him,” she asserted.

PM Modi embarked on his journey late Monday night. He will likely be the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ National Day celebrations on 12 March.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the visit’s significance. It described the trip as a step toward strengthening ‘India-Mauritius enduring ties’.

Taking to X, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal however posted, “Strengthening India-Mauritus enduring ties! PM @narendramodi has embarked on a 2-day State visit to Port Louis, Mauritius.”

PM will participate as the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ National Day Celebrations & also meet Mauritian leadership & dignitaries.

Ahead of his visit on Monday, PM Modi however expressed anticipation about engaging with Mauritius’ leadership to enhance bilateral ties and deepen cooperation for security and development in the Indian Ocean Region.

“Mauritius is a close maritime neighbour, key partner in the Indian Ocean and a gateway to the African continent,” PM Modi noted.

The Prime Minister further remarked, “At the invitation of my friend, Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, I am embarking on a two-day State Visit to Mauritius to participate in the celebrations of the 57th National Day of Mauritius. We are connected by history, geography and culture. Deep mutual trust, a shared belief in the values of democracy, and celebration of our diversity are our strengths.”

“The close and historical people-to-people connect is a source of shared pride. We have made significant strides in the past ten years with people-centric initiatives,” PM Modi emphasized.

The Prime Minister however expressed confidence that the visit would strengthen past foundations and mark the beginning of a new, promising chapter in India-Mauritius relations.

Expressing optimism about the visit, PM Modi further said, “I look forward to the opportunity to engage the Mauritius leadership to elevate our partnership in all its facets and strength our enduring friendship for the progress and prosperity of our peoples, as well as for security and development in the Indian Ocean Region, as part of our Vision SAGAR.”
