The counting of votes for the Milkipur Assembly seat bye-election in Ayodhya district began at 8 AM on Saturday, with several rounds of counting scheduled throughout the day. Early trends have started to emerge, showing a favorable lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

While 10 candidates are contesting the seat, the primary battle is between BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan and Samajwadi Party’s (SP) Ajit Prasad. The bye-election has further become a prestige contest between the two major political parties, both of which have fielded candidates from the influential Pasi community.
The Need For A By-Election
This bypoll was triggered after the previous SP representative, Awadhesh Prasad, vacated the Milkipur seat following his victory in the Faizabad (Ayodhya) Lok Sabha constituency in 2024. SP has fielded his son, Ajit Prasad, to contest the seat, while the BJP has nominated Chandrabhanu Paswan, resulting in a direct faceoff between the two Pasi leaders.
The Milkipur constituency has around 3.60 lakh voters, with a significant Dalit electorate of 1.25 lakh. The Pasi community, to which both leading candidates belong, comprises roughly 65,000 voters. Other key voter groups include 30,000 OBCs, 30,000 Muslims, 65,000 Brahmins, and 55,000 Yadavs.
Both the BJP and Samajwadi Party have further spared no effort in campaigning for this crucial seat, making it a high-stakes contest. As the counting continues, political observers and residents alike are eagerly awaiting the final results to see who will emerge victorious in this key by-election.
