To ensure the smooth conduct of the Delhi Assembly elections today, the Delhi government has announced a public holiday. This applies to all government offices, private workplaces, and public sector entities across the city.
A notification from the General Administration Department confirmed that Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena approved the holiday, stating, “There will be a public holiday on 5 February for all government offices, local and autonomous bodies, and public sector undertakings under the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi for the General Election to the Delhi Legislative Assembly.”
To assist election staff and voters, Delhi Metro has modified its operations for the day. Services across all metro lines commenced at 4 AM from terminal stations.
Initially, trains ran at 30-minute intervals until 6 AM, after which regular schedules resumed. This early start was aimed at facilitating polling staff and officials on duty.
Evening metro services have also been adjusted to accommodate commuters.
The Red Line will extend its operations from 11 PM to midnight.
The Yellow Line will run from 11 PM to 11:30 PM between Millennium City Centre Gurugram and Samaypur Badli, and from 11 PM to 11:45 PM in the opposite direction.
These arrangements have been made to ensure smooth travel for voters and election personnel while maintaining regular metro services.
Polling for all 70 seats of the Delhi Assembly is underway, with results set to be announced on 8 February, determining the leadership of the national capital for the next five years.
