India’s non-fossil fuel installed capacity reached 213.70 GW as of November 2024, recording a 14.2% increase compared to 187.05 GW in November 2023. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) announced this achievement, highlighting the significant strides made in renewable energy deployment.
During April-November FY25, the country added 14.94 GW of renewable capacity. This is nearly double the 7.54 GW added in the same period last year. November alone saw 2.3 GW capacity added, a fourfold rise compared to 566.06 MW added in November 2023.
Solar Power Leads India’s Renewable Energy Growth
Solar power continued to dominate the renewable sector, with installed capacity increasing from 72.31 GW in November 2023 to 94.17 GW in November 2024. The steady growth underscores India’s commitment to harnessing solar energy as a key part of its clean energy strategy.
The total non-fossil fuel capacity, including installed and pipeline projects, surged by 28.5%, reaching 472.90 GW in November 2024 from 368.15 GW a year earlier.

India’s renewable energy capacity growth reflects its efforts to transition to sustainable energy. With consistent additions and record-breaking installations, the country is moving closer to achieving its climate goals. The MNRE emphasized the importance of these advancements in reducing dependence on fossil fuels and meeting global climate commitments.
