On the 76th Raising Day of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a young NCC cadet gained widespread attention. The image, shared by the popular X handle Modi Archive, features a young Modi seated on the floor alongside his fellow cadets.

The caption accompanying the post read: A young NCC cadet, now India’s PM! Can you spot him in this picture? The Prime Minister is easily identifiable, sitting on the floor, first from the left.

PM Modi Encourages Youth Participation in NCC

Highlighting the benefits of NCC membership, the Prime Minister noted that it fosters discipline, leadership skills, and a spirit of service among young people.

Campaign to Engage Border Youth

PM Modi also shared details about an ongoing campaign to involve youth from border areas in the NCC. He pointed out the organisation’s significant growth in recent years:

  • 2014: Around 14 lakh youths were part of the NCC.
  • 2023: Over 2 lakh additional youths joined the organisation this year alone.

Rising Participation of Female Cadets

A key highlight of PM Modi’s remarks was the increasing participation of female cadets. “Earlier, girl cadets made up about 25% of the NCC. Today, they constitute nearly 40%,” he said.

Additionally, the number of schools and colleges affiliated with the NCC has grown substantially, with over 5,000 institutions now part of the organisation.

NCC: A Legacy of Unity and Discipline

Founded in 1948, the NCC celebrates its Raising Day on the fourth Sunday of November each year. It is the world’s largest uniformed youth organisation and operates under the motto Unity and Discipline.

This year’s celebrations not only marked the NCC’s rich history but further highlighted its role in nation-building, with PM Modi’s personal connection to the organisation inspiring a new generation of cadets.
