Google AI Hub In Visakhapatnam To Boost India’s Digital Future, Says PM Modi

PM Modi welcomes Google’s $15 billion AI hub in Visakhapatnam, supporting the Viksit Bharat vision and advanced data centre infrastructure.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed Google’s announcement of its first-ever AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, describing the initiative as fully aligned with the vision of building a Viksit Bharat.

Google will invest an estimated $15 billion in India over five years from 2026 to 2030. This will be the company’s largest investment in the country to date.

PM Modi said in a post on social media platform X, “Delighted by the launch of the Google AI Hub in the dynamic city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.”

He further added that the investment, including gigawatt-scale data centre infrastructure, “It will be a powerful force in democratizing technology,” and ensuring ‘AI for All’.

The Prime Minister reacted to a post by Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. He highlighted that the hub will provide cutting-edge AI tools to citizens.

He added that it will enhance India’s digital economy and strengthen the country’s position as a global technology leader.

Pichai described the initiative as a ‘landmark development’. He said it combines gigawatt-scale compute capacity, a new international subsea gateway, and large-scale energy infrastructure.

“Through it we will bring our industry-leading technology to enterprises and users in India, accelerating AI innovation and driving growth across the country,” he said.

Strategic Partnerships and Global Integration

Google announced the hub at Bharat AI Shakti, a pre-event to the India-AI Impact Summit 2026. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian called it a landmark investment in India’s digital future.

The Visakhapatnam hub will feature a purpose-built data centre campus. It will provide gigawatt-scale compute capacity to meet the rising demand for digital services in India and globally.

Developed with partners AdaniConneX and Airtel, the infrastructure will employ the same cutting-edge technology that powers Google Search, Workspace, and YouTube.

Once operational, the new campus will integrate with Google’s network of AI data centres spanning 12 countries. This integration will further cement India’s role in global AI innovation and digital leadership.
