In New Delhi, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar held extensive discussions with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck on Friday, focusing on strengthening India-Germany relations across multiple sectors. Their talks were part of the seventh India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC), a strategic initiative to advance bilateral cooperation.

Jaishankar shared insights on the successful meetings on social media platform X, expressing his enthusiasm for the deepening relationship. “Delighted to meet FM @ABaerbock of Germany, after a successful IGC meeting earlier today,” he posted, along with photos from the event.

“Held wide-ranging discussions on several regional and global issues. Our strategic partnership continues to deepen as it enters its 25th year.” The conversations underscored the growing commitment between India and Germany on critical matters.

Jaishankar and Habeck Address Global Challenges

Meanwhile, EAM Jaishankar’s dialogue with Habeck, who serves as both Germany’s Economic Affairs and Climate Action Minister, covered pressing contemporary challenges. Jaishankar’s post on X conveyed the impact of their discussions: “A good conversation with German Vice Chancellor and Economic Affairs and Climate Action Minister Robert Habeck.

Exchanged views on contemporary global challenges, both strategic and economic,” he wrote.

Habeck’s visit also highlighted urban development goals. Accompanied by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Habeck toured the YashoBhoomi Convention Centre in Dwarka, traveling on the Delhi Metro.

Goyal discussed India’s ambition to build “future-ready” cities and the importance of handling high-capacity infrastructure. “Our effort is to create future-ready cities that are able to handle large volumes,” Goyal noted during the journey.

Germany Emphasizes India’s Global Role at Asia-Pacific Conference

Earlier in the day, Habeck highlighted India’s key role in driving global economic shifts at the Asia-Pacific Conference. He emphasized that India is one of Germany’s most important partners in both the region and the world.

“India is one of the most important partners in the region and the world,” Habeck stated, underscoring the shared commitment to an EU-India Free Trade Agreement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi echoed these sentiments, lauding Germany’s trust in India’s capabilities. “The approach and commitment to taking this strategic partnership forward in a holistic manner is clearly visible. Germany’s trust in India is amazing,” PM Modi remarked.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz Arrives for Two-Day State Visit

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s arrival in India for a two-day state visit further signifies the importance of India-Germany ties. This trip marks Scholz’s third visit since assuming office in 2021, following his attendance at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in September and a bilateral state visit in February.

His frequent visits underscore the mutual dedication of both countries to advancing this vital partnership.
